Online financial aid applications for the 2010-2011 academic year are now available.
Since its founding in 1935, The Putney School has been enriched by socioeconomic diversity. Our financial aid office collaborates with families to keep this remarkable school accessible to students of all income levels. Even students who pay full tuition receive a subsidy since tuition revenue meets only 75% of the cost of a Putney education. Our modest but growing endowment and Annual Fund (supported by alumni, parents, and friends) provide the remaining 25% of the funds that underwrite every enrolled student. The Putney School is committed to offering educational experiences to students of varying financial resources through payment plans, loan plans, and need-based financial aid. Various billing schedules and financing services can supplement need-based financial assistance or can provide primary funding sources for those families ineligible for financial aid.
What is the tuition?
For the school year 2010-2011, tuition is $44,000 for a boarding student and $28,700 for a day student. For students taking English for Speakers of Other Languages classes (ESOL) pay $4,000 for each year (fee as of the 2009-2010 school year) they are enrolled in the ESOL program.
Additional required fees are $150 (new students only) as a refundable damage deposit and the cost of tuition refund insurance (3.3% of tuition expense for 10/11), which is remitted to Dewar's tuition insurance company. International students are required to purchase health and accident insurance (approximately $1,620), unless they have coverage by an insurance company with US offices.
Payment Options
Some families who don’t qualify for need-based financial aid use payment plans and loans to ease the burden. Those who do receive financial aid also find payment plans and loans helpful in bridging the gap between their award and the family’s monthly budget.
Questions not answered here about payment plans should be directed to our business office: 802/387-6245.
