International Students and ESOL

The Putney School is a well-known boarding school located on a 500-acre farm in rural New England in The United States. We are on the edge of the small town of Putney, Vermont, about two hours west of Boston. The Putney School is a secondary school with 226 boys and girls in grades 9-12 and 80 adult staff members and teachers. All of the boarding students and many of the teachers and staff live on the campus. About 18 percent of our students come from countries outside the United States. In recent years we have had students from Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Rwanda, Spain, Switzerland, Tibet, Ukraine, and the West Indies.

The Putney School has strong support for international students in and out of the classroom. Four faculty members who specialize in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and intercultural education help international students make a comfortable transition to American boarding school life.
