Branded Bread

"Who here is an artist?" asked Executive Chef Marty Brennan-Sawyer one day last week of his summer crew, comprised largely of current day students who live nearby. Three hands went up, of course. But it was Jon Erik '13 who got the job of cutting a stencil of the Putney elm logo out of a plastic tub lid. Marty used the stencil to create "branded" miche, a white French bread, by wetting the loaf and sprinkling flour over the stencil just before baking. The result is what you see here. It doesn't make the bread taste any better but, then again, maybe it does.
