It's amazing the change that landscaping can make. The piles of dirt we created way back in October/November of 2002 have been spread around the outside of the building as part of the landscaping plan. The east lawn is no longer bounded by a wall of dirt and the outline of the gardens, grassy areas and footpaths are visible.
On the inside there have been between 35-40 workers every day as we push towards substantial completion and a certificate of occupancy by January 31st 2004! It should take us about two additional weeks to move in and commission the building. Then the Michael S. Currier Center becomes part of the campus. The sheetrock tapers are almost done and some of the walls have received a coat of finish paint. The colors are amazing! Bathrooms, closets, storage areas and the kitchen are nearly complete as is the green room near the back of the stage. The roof and skylights worked as programmed during the cold weather. The sunlight filtering through the snow on the skylights was especially dramatic this week. Much of the acoustical ceiling and wall tiles were installed last week. The crew is from Ohio and is staying in Brattleboro, so they are working especially long hours and on the weekend. The millwork has arrived and some of the cubbies and benches have been installed or are on site. The millwork is very high quality and robust as well. Next week we should begin applying the finishes on the wood floors. Light fixtures, bathroom fixtures, concealer heads for the sprinklers and the 12-foot-high mirrors in the dance studio all are being put in place. It really is impressive to see the amount of work that takes place during a single day. In roughly two months we shall begin using the Michael S. Currier Center every single day. |
