The science courses at Putney emphasize
the scientific method as a means of
understanding the natural world. They
introduce fundamental physical, chemical,
and biological principles through
active inquiry, experimentation, and
exercises in problem solving. A student
who chooses four years of science
at Putney will normally take biology
and chemistry, followed by physics or
a series of half-credit electives in the
junior or senior year. Many of the science
courses at Putney seek to cultivate
ecological literacy and awareness and
foster a life-long commitment to environmental
stewardship. The Putney
farm is an integral component of this
experience. Advanced independent
work can be arranged with members of
the department.
