The crew reportedly had great fun answering questions on people in the news, great decisions of 2004, world languages, Africa, flags, current events and so on against teams from Brattleboro Union High School, Fall Mountain Regional High School and Leland and Gray High School.
At The Putney School we don't work for "marks, badges, honors, but to discover truth and to grow in knowledge of the universe and in the understanding of men, to treasure the hard stretching of oneself, to render service." We're also willing to have some fun while we're competing, so Yves and Matt traded name tags and convinced at least one interlocutor that "Yves" was a Belgian Rwandan while "Matt" was a Rwandan Belgian and that they had met at school.
As winners, the team is now qualified to represent the state of Vermont at the national Academic World Quest 2005 competition in Washington, DC April 1-3. We'll let you know how they do.
