Our combined schools were able to prevent the emission of an estimated 240,246 pounds of CO2! Putney's share amounted to 4,000 kwh or 8,000 fewer pounds of CO2 released for a savings of $450.

Although Millbrook took top honors, it's Planet Earth that comes out on top in this competition. That's the good news. And it's a good example for others to follow. If 15 independent boarding schools can save a quarter million pounds of CO2 in a month, imagine what 15 manufacturing companies could do!

Although Putney finished mid-pack, we do have the second-lowest per-capita energy use at 65 kwh/student/month. Many schools use more than two or three times this amount, despite impressive reductions over the monitored month. That's because we've been buttoning the place down for years. Read all about our tradition of sustainable practices in the upcoming issue of the Putney Post, either in your mailbox next month (alumni and current parents) or online here in another week or so.
