Two amazing performances punctuated Parents' Weekend last weekend, not including the fine weather we enjoyed for the three days of advisor conferences and class visits.

On Friday night we saw humans and woodland fairies intersect at the sliding doors between worlds (well, the inside of Calder Hall and the East Lawn beyond) in a never-before-attempted modern dance performance in that space. We then rotated our chairs 90 degrees right to watch students perform modern, ballet, African, hip-hop and Spanish dancing on our newly constructed sprung dance floor. One piece, called "Sprung," was a tribute to contributors, cooperators and collaborators who made the new floor possible. Click the galleries below to see images of the final rehearsal on Thursday. (The fairies we much more fanciful in the dark of Friday night, but impossible to photograph.)

Saturday night we enjoyed musical performances by the jazz ensemble, orchestra strings, full orchestra, Putney Singers, madrigals, jazz combo and several individuals and smaller groups. Genres ranged from original guitar and vocal pieces, to jazz, to pop, to an incredibly fun "What's Up At the Symphony?" from Bugs Bunny's Greatest Hits--the latter featuring the Putney School Orchestra with Gordon Jones and Abijah Reed '53 in the roles of Elmer Fudd and Bugs, respectively. Here are some images from Friday's final rehearsal:
