Lacrosse 2008

Imagine soccer played with a stick you can use to hit the sticks of other players and, occasionally (but always unintentionally) your opponent, and you have a thumbnail sketch of the sport called lacrosse.

Our boys' and girls' teams took on their counterparts from the Dublin school on Monday for our last home games of the season. The girls' game was closely contested and high scoring, but we couldn't gain the advantage and finished two goals down. The boys' score was considerably more lopsided. Our gang was spirited and put in a good effort, but the Dublin boys simply had better ball handling skills, keeping us to a single goal against them. Coach Noah Hoskins says the culture of lacrosse is growing among the boys, citing a freshman lad working with his stick handling skills at noontime. "You wouldn't have seen that at Putney two years ago. By the time he's a senior, that guy will have top-notch ball handling skills," says Noah. "Yeah!" says Coach Blake Zahn.
