Meet Our New Faculty & Staff

This summer, we welcomed a new group of faculty and staff for the coming school year. It is our pleasure to introduce to you (from left to right):

Mary Beth Berberick: Math
Mary Beth has a math degree from Hamilton, and three years of teaching experience at Wasatch Academy, a boarding school in Utah. She has also taught for two years at Foxborough Regional Charter School. She’ll be teaching math, coaching, and living in Huseby.

Rob Guerrina: Plant Staff
Rob will be working on Jim Taylor's crew, doing his share of overall plant maintenance and repair.

Lynne Weinstein: Photography
Lynne has a BA in Fine Arts from Brown. She has done a great deal of work in this area, including at the Putney Summer Program and BUHS. She was previously a photo editor at Life. She will be teaching photography half-time, and lives locally.

Mark Gunkel: Director of Technology
Mark comes to us from Norwich University, where he has been doing Instructional Development. He’s got an MS in progress in Instructional Technology Management from Marlboro College. In addition to being a technology expert, he is a rock-climber and a cross country skier, and he’ll be helping coach x-c skiing here. He and his wife are building a house nearby.

Christopher Petrella: Asst. Director of Admissions
Christopher has a BA in Religion from Bates College and an MA in Religion, Politics and Education from Harvard. He’s been a coach, musician and community organizer. He’ll be living in the Milk House and coaching, as well as working in admissions.

James Wallace: Music Director
James worked as Music Director at St. George’s School for six years, after a six year stint at The Hill School. Most recently he’s been in LA working in the movie industry. He has degrees from Westminster Choir College and Pacific Lutheran University, and will be doing both vocal and instrumental music here. He will be living at Lower Farm.

Janine Hamilton: Math, Arts
Janine was educated at Putney, Hunter College-CUNY, and Antioch. She worked in NY as a freelance artist and theater director for many years. She has taught math and been a dorm head at North Country School for the past three years. She will teach math, drama and film, and will live in New Boys with her freshman daughter.

Doug Lynch: Arts and Math (leave and sabbatical replacement)
Doug has an MFA in painting, a BA in Economics and a BS in Math and Statistics. He has taught in our Summer Programs for several years, and taught in a variety of secondary and college positions. He will be living off campus.

Rodrigo Nava: Arts (leave replacement)
Rodrigo is a graduate of Putney and the American University of Paris. He has taught in our summer program for four years, and was a leave replacement here in 2002-3. He will be teaching sculpture, overseeing the Currier Center gallery, and living in Old Girls.

Dawn Zweig: Science
Dawn has an MS in Environmental Studies from Antioch and a BS in Biology from Univ. of Maryland. She has been teaching at Vermont Academy for 3 years, and running their Vermont Environs Program, which involves sustainability, stewardship and community initiatives. Previously she taught at Mount Snow Academy and was an AmeriCorps leader. She’ll be teaching Chemistry, Biology and health, and living in Old Boys.

Nathan Zwieg: English
Nathan has an MA in philosophy from Northern Illinois University and a BA in Philosophy and Literature/History of Math and Science from St. John’s College. He has been teaching English, History and Philosophy at Vermont Academy, and teaching rock climbing and snowboarding. He’ll be teaching English, doing various outdoor pursuits, and living in Old Boys.

Juan Rodriguez: Asst. Dean of Students
Juan comes to us from Deerfield, where he has been a Spanish teacher and Director of Multicultural Affairs. He has also taught at St. Stephens School in Austin, Texas. He has a BA in philosophy from the University of Texas and an MA in progress at Middlebury. He comes to Putney with his wife and two children, and will live in Wirth House.

(not shown) Gary Knapp: Farm Staff
Gary is our newest utility hitter on the farm team--everything from mowing hay to welding cutter and tractor parts back on that hit rocks while mowing hay. Gary has years of experience with large machines, teenagers and cows, so we're glad to have him aboard.

(not shown) Rick Kuhn: Plant Staff
Rick joined us right at the end of the summer and will be assisting George Barber in keeping the campus buildings clean. Rick has plenty of prior boarding school experience doing similar work for Vermont Academy.
