The Putney School Summer Program

for International Education (P.I.E.) - ESL / ESOL

English language classes for students ages 14-17

on the campus of The Putney School in Putney, Vermont USA

Boys and girls ages 14-17 attend for 3 weeks or 6 weeks:

Session I:  Sunday, June 22 to Friday, July 11, 2008

Session II:  Sunday, July 13 to Friday, August 1, 2008

Both Sessions:  Sunday, June 22 to Friday, August 1, 2008

Both-Session students may stay on campus between sessions.

  • Work towards fluency in reading, writing, listening and speaking English
  • Small groups for beginning, intermediate and advanced students
  • Challenging language classes 5 days a week
  • Fun language projects to practice English
  • Trips to nearby towns and cultural centers
  • Accelerated learning through language immersion:
    • 120 U.S. students on campus for creative arts workshops
    • PIE (international) students eat meals and live in small dormitories with U.S. students.
    • Each PIE student has an American roommate.
    • PIE students enjoy afternoon sports, weekend camping and cultural trips, and evening art activities with U.S. students.
  • Evening art classes in music, dance, theater, drawing, painting, sculpture, and other visual arts
  • Excellent, experienced teachers.  Student:faculty ratio of 3:1.
  • Lasting friendships among all students
  • Beautiful hilltop campus in northeastern U.S. – safe rural community, with comfortable summer weather

U.S. students who are non-native speakers are welcome in the PIE English language program.

International students who are fluent in English should apply to arts workshops:  visual art, dance, music, theater, and creative writing.

Cost:  $3500 for 3 weeks, $6500 for 6 weeks  (U.S. Dollar)

Travel Information:  We pick up and drop off students at the Bradley International Airport (BDL).

Please note:  This English-language program is not designed as an SAT or TOEFL preparatory class.
