Progress in Progressive Education

Sunday, June 20 – Tuesday, June 22, 2010

It does not seem likely that a new John Dewey is going to appear.  Progressive schools must define their own futures, and there is no better way than getting the best teachers and leaders together to learn from each other and create new understanding.  There will be no ‘audience’ here – all participants will be expected to think, create and present.  If you are interested in the future of progressive education, we invite you to join us to tackle these questions:

  • What are the essential questions around which secondary education should be designed?  The central skills?
  • How should new mind/brain research and technology change our goals and methods (or should they)?
  • How should the imperatives of globalization and environmental crisis inform our curriculum?
  • What are the measurables, and how will we know we are succeeding?

Participants: teachers; administrators; and trustees from progressive public and independent schools, and progressive educators working in more traditional schools.  Professors of education and others interested in the central educational debates at a national level.

Antioch NE will offer a credit class for participants following the symposium.
