SUMMARY:Fall Play: The Laramie Project
DESCRIPTION:View our fall production of “The Laramie Project.” Written by by Moisés Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theater Project\, this play is based on more than 200 interviews with the people of Laramie\, Wyoming after the murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard in 1998. \nThe students at the Putney School are politically engaged and Laramie feels unfortunately apt for this moment as it speaks to the limits of tolerance\, power of protest\, dynamics of a divided community\, and the ongoing violence against LGBTQ+ folks. \nIn addition to the production there will be a student curated gallery exhibit that will feature more information on hate crimes alongside student artwork that responds to the themes of the play. DESCRIPTION:Whose community is it\, anyway? Why would I work at a school that asks me to pay tuition? What can I possibly learn by doing manual labor during high school? \nOur third Student Leaders Panel features student leaders of Putney’s Work Committee and it will happen from 4-5:00 pm EDT and you can register for it through this link. \nThis panel offers you the chance to hear from and converse with this year’s committee. By way of background\, the Work Committee is one of the oldest and most deeply-rooted among the student leadership roles at Putney.  Students have been overseeing much of the work required to keep the dairy farm operating\, the dining hall functional\, and the campus clean and viable.
