D & D Campaign Writing
In the Dungeons and Dragons workshop, you’ll explore the artistic world of storytelling. As a group, we will design characters, monsters, maps, and quests while simultaneously exploring the world-building elements behind them. Student work will oscillate between independent and group mediums as we analyze D&D’s various rules and guidelines through active design-work. We will engage in complex discussions as we consider topics like morality and individual choice. In D&D, player autonomy acts as the driving force behind the collaborative story being told — as such, improv skills become critical. Through developing these skills, we will lean into imagination and the creative heart behind the game itself. By the end of the workshop, you will experience a newfound appreciation and understanding for collaboration in storytelling and all of its facets.
Each student will experience the dual-sided approach to D&D. Days will be split between the thematic elements of D&D’s Dungeon Master perspective and the player’s perspective. We will use the standard books and a ‘one-shot’ campaign to play through.
