Opening Reception for ‘Space Between Angles’ Art Exhibit at Currier Center

Waterloo Sunset, oil on linen, 48″x60″

Join us Friday, April 22 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Currier Center for an opening reception of artist Elise Ansel’s solo exhibit ‘Space Between Angles.’ The exhibition will run April 1 – May 15.

Ansel translates Old Master Paintings into a contemporary pictorial language, drawing upon familiar compositions from throughout the history of art. Her paintings are derived and abstracted from Old Master paintings, modernizing classical works.

“My intention is not only to make original work and deepen my own appreciation of Old Master painting but also to bring this work into focus for other people, to enliven and reinvent old master pieces in the context of contemporary life and culture,” she says in her artist statement.

Ansel has exhibited her work throughout the United States and in Europe. Her works are held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art and the Evansville Museum of Arts and Sciences.
