Register for Alumni Arts and Writing Workshops

Starting this year, we are excited to offer a selection of online workshops for alumni of The Putney School and Putney Summer Arts. Brighten your new year and let your artistic side flourish in our series of online workshops, where you’ll create, grow, laugh, and learn with Putney alumni of all generations.

All workshops will meet via Zoom. Each week you’ll be invited to stay for an optional social time to share work and visit with your fellow alumni.

Workshops include:

Animation: The Art of Motion

Animation allows you to tell powerful visual stories. In this workshop, participants will hone foundational animation skills and apply those techniques through production processes using digital tools and physical media, bringing ideas to the screen and gaining proficiency with digital tools like Photoshop, AfterEffects, Premiere Pro, and iStopMotion.

Painting: Discovery & Depth

Participants will explore the histories that shape who we are and what we are able to see, and the ways that we can translate these complicated, intersectional lives into a visual image. Participants’ curiosity, humor, and openness will lead to discovery and depth as they create art together.

Photography: Stop Taking Pretty Pictures

The general understanding of photography is that one takes rather than makes pictures, and that images with traditional aesthetic beauty are more highly regarded. But photography can (and should) do much more. This class will dig into learning to see differently and to make images as we delve in together to explore the deep history of photography beyond sunsets.

Storytelling: What’s at Stake?

Writing is more than putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). Celebrate the joy of writing and collaboration with fellow writers and instructor Freya Sachs. Together you will deepen your characters’ voices, bring new worlds to life, and expand your idea of what a story can be.
