Putney Publicly Honors Emily Jones and ‘Sings it Forward’ with Campaign Launch

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, Putney celebrated the public launch of  Sing it Forward: A Campaign for Putney’s Future. The campaign goals include raising funds for two new net zero dormitories, a black box theater (to rise in the heart of campus), increased endowment support for students and faculty members and growing more robust Annual Fund support as well.

Reunion goers, alumni, Putney School community members, trustees, faculty and staff attended. The celebration began with a public honoring of outgoing Head of School Emily Jones through words and song. Speakers included Trustee Tasha Byus ’88, P’19, ’22 and her daughter Corinne Byus ’22; Phyllis Wender on behalf of Trustee Ira Wender; and Michael Sardinas on behalf of longtime faculty member emeritus Brian Cohen P ’03.

Trustee Thao Matlock P’18 and Director of Development Kalya Yannatos spoke about the campaign which then launched through song and the jubilant toss of biodegradable confetti and the waving of hand made “wands.” Celebration Brass Band played joyful music throughout the festivities which concluded in a community Sing, led by Lucy Shelton ’62 in collaboration with the Putney School Music Director Eric Thomas.
